My first club Night
I think this weekend was one of the best I have had in Korea. It all started on Friday night with some of my coworkers. It was the usual group of Jen, Sara, Allison, Neil and I. Also Allisons friend Cititia (my inspiration) and my Korean friend Sok Hyun aka Martin joined us. The last Friday of the month is club night in Hongdae. This means that you pay one cover of 15,000 won ($15), get a free drink, and get into a bunch of differnt clubs all night. It is really a sweet deal when you consider the fact that most clubs cost $20 dollars to get into. We started out the night by going for dinner.
We went to a Mexican restuarant and it was the first time I have had Mexican food in over six months!!!! Since I come from Arizona, I would not really call it Mexican food. I know the difference. But for being on the other side of the world, it wasn't bad. The place was called Margaritas and they had the worst margaritas I have ever had. I mean how hard is it to make a margarita, especially when it cost more than my meal. Jennifer decided to go home after dinner. I was really bummed, because I always have the best time with her. But she really wanted to go home and so she did.
The rest of us headed to Route 66. This is usually our first stop in Hongdae. Its a cool bar and
they make a really strong Long Island Ice Tea. That night I went with a California Lemonade and it was a great choice. Martin and I chatted it up since we haven't seen each other in a few weeks. He is really the nicest guy in the world, and he gives great advice. This bar is really laid back so I was really surprised when the bartender blew fire. It was a great little show, but it really freaked me out. After Route 66 Martin had to head home, and we left for our first club called Hooper. I was so excited waiting in line for our first club. We paid our cover charge and walked in. I was shocked when this Young Korean guy grabbed me and started to push
towards the bar and all he said was "Bar, Bar, Bar", I guessed I had to order my first drink quick, so I headed over there and ordered a beer. I drank my beer pretty quickly because the music was hoppin' and I really wanted to dance. We headed up to the stage area and we busted our moves. It is intresting to be in a Korean night club because there are mostly guys there, so they dance together. I don't mean they just dance next to each other. I mean they really dance together, by holding on to each other. Half the girls can really dance. The other half do this little Korean girl bob where they move kinda slow but smile really big. I actually think it's really cute when they dance like that.
Neil the photographer takes a picture of the girls.
After Hooper we head over to the Family Mart, to drink some beer.
Like Las Vegas, in Seoul you can drink on the street. Although you don't see that many people doing it, it is legal, therefore we got some beer and hung out on the street and drank. Then we decided to hit up the bigger clubs like M2 and NB. Of course there was a huge line in front of those clubs so we got more beer and decided to just drink while we waited. I also took this time to call H and tell him about my eventful night. This is important because while I was on the phone with him I was able to do the Korean squat. Unfortunately there was no one around to take my picture, so you will have to just take my word for it.
We got into NB and the place was packed. There was sooooooo many people and surprisingly to me, there was a lot of "foreigners". But when you looked into the crowd
all you could see was black hair. At this club is where Cititia and I found our dance stalker. I think he stared at us for about twenty minutes before he tried to dance with us. We were on a stage again and he tried dancing with me while he was on the floor. Then he worked up his courage to get on the stage and dance with Cititia. She gave me a desperate plea to help her and so I danced my way in between them and shooed him away. I always feel bad when I push the guys away, because it really takes them a lot of courage to approach a "foreigner", and when they do, you see in their eyes how excited they are. Neil told me later that Cititia had another stalker that kept following the two of them around. Well she is gorgeous, so its not hard to understand why.
Shortly after the NB I headed home, because I had a busy Saturday. Club night was a great experience, and I can't wait till next month when I can do it all again. Hopefully this time Jennipul will come out and it will be even better.
