So Sad Too Bad

Last Friday I woke up at 9am and worked all day, then I hit the gym (instead of taking a nap like I planned). I got home about 8 pm and hit the shower. I was in for a long night, and I was making sure I was prepared. I had to meet Sok Hyun and his friends at 11:30 pm so we could go to City Hall to watch the fourth Futball game for Korea. Jen and I put on our 'I Love Korea' shirts and Red Devil horns and headed to the subway around 11 pm. I have to say, that Korean people were really impressed with Jen and I wearing the Korean apparel. Everyone was shouting 'Go Korea' and 'Da han min gook'. While we were waiting for our train, a girl even asked to take our picture. Then we got on the craziest train ride I have ever been on. It was a sea of red. I couldn't believe how many people were wearing the Red Devil shirts. Jen and I stood infront of these two older men (about 50 years old). They kept telling us, that we were soooo beautiful (which is nice at first but then annoying). Then they asked the two guys sitting next to them to stand up so we could sit next to them. I absolutely did not want to sit next to these creepy older men. They were insisting we sit next to them and I tried using the little bit of Korean I knew to say no thank you. Everyone on the train was laughing including myself, they were really persistent. Finally Jen yelled "Ok, OK I will sit down!!!!" I still refused and I sure am glad I didn't cause they started pawing at Jen. It was no longer funny and we got up and moved to another part of the train. I wish I could say this was really unusual, but unfortunately, this type of thing has happened a number of times including today, but more about that another time. We arrived at City Hall and it was unbelieveable. Jen's friend T met us and brought us to where we had seats on the STREET. But I didn't mind because this game was super important because if they won, Korea was in the top 16, but if they lost Korea was out. Even though the game didn't start till 4 am on Saturday morning, we had to go earlier to get seats ( I heard people were showing up at noon on Friday to get good seats). They did have an amazing concert of some really famous Korean singers and rappers to keep you busy while you waited. I recognized the songs from the Korean music station I watch every morning while I get ready for work. I was actually really impressed because this concert was free. Well, we sat down at midnight and were ready to wait. The atmosphere was incredible. There was no way I was going to fall asleep waiting for this game. Jen and I loaded up on alcohol and Sok Hyun and his friends brought food. We were also with some of Jen's other friends too, so there was probably about 10 of us all together. Of course Jen and I were the only whiteys. We started mixing drinks until we found out that the line for the bathroom was about an hour long!!!! That ended my liquid consuption right then. Luckily I made it all the way until I went home before I had to pee (Thank you bladder). I am actually surprised that I never got bored waiting for the game. They had these guys with drums walking around shouting in Korean and singing songs with the crowd. They even asked me to stand up and bang on the drums with them. I had some pics of it, but honestly I looked really fat in them so I opted to leave them out. The game started at 4 am and I got a burts of energy, that engery held until Switzerland scored their second goal. There was no way for Korea to win after that and thats when I started to feel very sleepy. The game ended around 6 am; since the subways open at 5:30 we were able to take it home. We walked to a station farther away so we wouldn't be pushed by the crowd. I got home a little after seven and then talked to B about the game on the phone for about an hour. Finally I went to sleep after 8 am, I was almost awake 24hrs straight. Then I woke up at noon so I slept less then four hours. Errrrrr, what I do for futbal<3 style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/4906/2863/200/P1010067.jpg" border="0">

Father's Day

Here I am sooooo far away from my dad on Father's day. I really really miss him. I never thought I would miss my dad so much, but here I am wishing I could go home for just a bit to give him a great big hug. I was one of those horrible children that never realized what great parents they had until they moved away from home (I was going to say an adult, but anyone that knows me, knows I am not an adult, nor do I want to be). I have learned so much about being a good person and friend. My dad is one of those people that you can always go to with a favor, he'll help you out, no questions asked. He always played with me as a kid and listened as I went through my tween years. Well, sometimes it went in one ear and out the other when he was mad, but when I needed him he was always there, as he is now. While my coworkers complain about their childhood or upbringing, I brag about how mine was soooo great. So what, if I didn't have all of the coolest toys, I always had love. So here I say, to all fathers that try their best, just as my father did, Thank you Thank you Thank you for all you do. And to my dad, I love you!!!!!!

USA Base

I got the chance of a lifetime yesterday, I was brought onto the American Army base. I know, wow.... oooohhhhh. But really I felt like I was at Disneyland. First of all I was with Americans all day. Normally my day conisists of Koreans and Canadians, everyonce in awhile throw in a nonpatriotic American ( I am very patriotic and I really don't like Americans that complain about the USA). I really like Koreans and my bestfriend here is Canadian, but being with all Americans just made my day. It was really comforting, and I felt like I was at home. I was brought on the base by some of my new friends that I met. They are all officers, so they all had cars, can you say jealous much???? They gave me a tour of the base and we ate at a very yummy Mexican resturant. Then the real fun began. First we went bowling. This was such a great time, we played on teams and I got the highest score I have ever had and our team won. I have never even broke 80, but my goal has always been to go over 100 and I got a 105. I was beyond excited and everyone was really impressed with me, especially since my first game was a 67. We play three games total and then we went to play miniture golf. Yep all of this is on the U.S base. I actually putted quite well, my dad would've been really proud of me, I even got a hole in one, take that Tiger Woods!!!!! The weather was perfect for the game and after we finished we didn't want to go back indoors so we headed to the batting cages. Again, I was impressed that I was able to hit a lot of balls. It was like my sports aura came out that day, and I could do no wrong. To wind up the day, we got some grocceries and we went back to one of their apartments that was off base, and I got a free cooking lesson, watch out Rachel Ray here I come. It was a great day and I am so thankful to my new American friends, Go USA!!!!!

Futball what?????

The World Cup is here!!!!! Yeah, I am sure most of you are thinking, 'World Cup what???', cause that is exactly what I was thinking. I mean, I have heard of the World Cup, and I knew it was a soccer tournament, but I had no idea how BIG it was all over the world. The people go crazy for this event. About a month ago I noticed a lot of people wearing Korean World Cup shirts. I didn't pay much attention then, but now that the WC has started I can understand the hype. This place has gone crazy for soccer, oh by the way its called 'Futball'. So I decided to buy into this excitement and I went out and bought an 'I Love Korea' 'Red Devils' shirts. The Korean futball team calls themselves the Red Devils. Everyone in Korea was excited for the first game against Togo (have any of you ever heard of this country because I sure haven't, I even spent fifteen minutes looking on a world map), even my Kindies were talking about the WC. Bum was really excited about the WC too, so I decided I needed to learn about the WC so I could enjoy this event. I went to a website for women to learn about the WC. I gained valuable knowledge about the rules and the hottie players. If you wanna check it out go here. Last Tuesday was the first game against Togo and I decided to go to city hall to watch the game on some huge TV screens. There was literally about a million people in the streets wearing red shirts and cheering for Korea. The streets were very organized, with all of the people actually sitting on the street to watch the game. Can you imagine a million people nice enough to make sure everyone had an equal chance to view the game. They were still very enthusiastic and shouting "Dae Ha Min Gook" (means Korea, yeah Korea is easier to say). Everyone was drinking and having a good time. I bought some beer from this mini pick up truck (one of the only trucks I have seen thus far) and it was only $2. I know I would have paid at least double in The USA and would not have been able to wander the streets with it in hand. When Togo got a red card, everyone jumped up and and this Korean guy hugged me and said "Redeh cardeh" I took that has red card and I jumped up and down also. A bit after that Korea scored their first goal and the place went insane, I had three guys jump on me then screaming. I was told later that guys often take this opportunity to get acquainted with girls and there are a lot of 'World Cup' babies. Even though the WC is being held in Germany, Korea is celebrating as it was here. There is a game tomorrow morning at 4 am and one of my Korean friends asked me to go to City hall with them. I declined because although the game was very exciting, I still prefer my rest, afterall I did have to work that day.

Day off in the middle of the week!!!!

I am in Korea and yes they do things a little differently. Today was a National holiday and it is also a Tuesday. So I went to work on Monday and then I got today off. It feels a little strange cause back in the USA, the holiday would have been on a a Monday or a Friday so there would be a long weekend. Again, this is Korea and things are different here. I actually liked having the day off today. Now when I go back to work tomorrow, I only have three days left of work, yipeeeeee!!!!!
Today Jen and I decided to have a very relaxing day. I woke up around 10 am and went for a jog, to clear my head about Habum. No huge problems, but things are not going so good anymore. Anyways the jog worked. I then went home and showered so I could go to lunch with "Jen Jen my friend". We walked to Yeoido which takes about twenty minutes to one of our favorite restaurants. The food is called Shabu Shabu and its delicious. Basically it is super thin sliced beef that you cook in a spicy sauce. After the beef is gone, you add noodles and eat those along with drinking some of the soupy hot sauce. Finally the waitress pours in some rice and cooks it for you till the rice is kinda burned on the bottom and then you eat that. All three courses are absolutely fabulous and I have to say you must try it when you are in Korea. The owner of the restaurant is really friendly and used to
study in America, so we always chat with him a bit. I asked him when he came back to Korea and he told me he drank in drove in America and was deported. I guess he didn't understand my question and I was quite taken aback by the bluntness of his answer.

On our way back home we passed this really hot Korean guy and he had a shirt on that said "I love English." Jen and I loved this!!! Jen had a shirt that said "I love Korea." So she said to him "oh oh you love English and I love Korea!!!!" He kinda laughed and I think he thought we were a little crazy and walked away. It was definately one of those I love Korea moments.

The H weekend

H finally met my coworkers. He is sooooo shy about speaking English to other people, it was like pulling teeth to get him to go. Finally I said if he was unwilling to meet my coworkers then, this was going to cause some problems. Now this has nothing to do with me wanting our relationship to progress, because I am perfectly happy at where we are. But I am bored of only hanging out with him. I am a people person, and I like being around a lot of people and not just one. So after a discussion that was definately too long for this subject matter he agreed to go. He invited his good friend to come along to help take the pressure off. His friends name was N and he was a really cool guy. They both ended up having a good time, and all of my coworkers thought H was a really nice guy. I guess they are a bad judge of character, hehe, just kidding.

We went to a place called "Watts on tap", they have a great drink special on the weekends. Its $15 all you can drink for the ladies and $20 all you can drink for the men. This included domestic and imported beer, and decent liquor (ex. Barcardi and Smirinoff). They even had live music, and the singer gave out free shots of tequilla if you answered trivia questions correctly. I got one right because it was about colored blindness and my good ole dad is color blind (I never thought that my dads colorblindness would have ever scored me free booze, but it did). The night was great and I would write more but my mom asked me to leave out the funny stories, so if you wanna know, then you'll just have to ask her.
