Weekend in Tongyoung: Day 1

My first weekend back in Seoul, my co-worker and I signed up for a weekend trip together with Adventure Korea to go to a coastal town called Tongyoung. Christian convinced me to go and said it would be a weekend of hanging out on the beach and swimming. Since I hurt my foot really badly in Thailand, I wanted to just relax on the beach and let my foot heal. This was no sitting and relaxing weekend. There weren't any beaches and it was a weekend of site seeing and lots and lots of walking. This was definitely bad news for my foot, but it was absolutely beautiful and I am so glad I was able to see this lovely town.

The first thing we did was go on some banana boats and these really fun inflated slides into the sea. Again this was not a beach, but a floating dock in the sea. Christian and I spent the day going on this slide over and over again. I think it was intended for little kids, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. After we finished, we watched tradional Korean sword fighting.

Next we headed back to our hotel for a less than great dinner and to get ready to go out. We stayed in a huge hotel room that fit 35 people. It was so nice. We all got ready and then headed to the small downtown area for a few drinks. There we met these young Korean guys who were only 19 years old. They were so cute and I was disappointed that they were too young for me. They called me older sister, and I drank with them for a few hours. They made me try dried anchovies (a very popular snack) and it was horrible, but atleast I did it. Then they kept asking me weird questions like who looked younger, who was cuter, who looked the smartest. I found out later that this is very common in Korea, when a group of guys meet a girl for the first time. Since Koreans are very blunt people you are supposed to answer honestly, and they are not bothered by your answers, but I am American and I felt weird saying who was the cutest and who was the youngest. After a great time with these cute guys, I went back to the hotel for a good nights sleep.
